Think You’re An Expert? High Shear Granulation Has Some Holes In The Accepted Theory
People always scrape very well after they are done wet massing the powder. But ever opened the granulator after mixing and before wet massing begins or after wet massing but before kneading begins?
And look at the photo: We see three different classes of powder after the solution has been added and before kneading begins.
What happens to this dry powder that never wets down? And then you continue and dry it even more?
Don’t believe me? In this photo we actually see three different things after the wet massing. In the photo we see the wetted powder below, the wet skin of powder up above this and then we see the non-wetted white powder above.
And some people reply, “Well that is why we scrape after wet massing is completed and that power becomes wet and turns into granules”. But this is not entirely true and you are betting your batch on this myth. Real experts recommend scraping in different intervals during the mixing, solution introduction and post solution kneading phases.
